American professor Jonathan Brown (1939–2022) has died, and with him, a great worldwide teacher on the exceptional pictorial work of Velázquez

His work Velázquez, pintor y cortesano (1986), with several later editions, meant a turning point, still not overcome, in the way of explaining, seeing and understanding Velázquez’s pictorial genius.
